Comparative characteristics of the growth of male children and adolescents living in the Middle Ob region

Abstract

One of the main indicators of physical development is growth. It reflects the quantitative increase in the cellular mass of tissues and organs. Morphological, biochemical, and physiological transformations occur in the body, driven by hereditary factors and the external environment, which determines the level of translation of the genetic growth potential within a programmed range. Growth assessment in Russia is conducted using standardized programs and tables developed in remote areas under the most comfortable conditions and approved by the WHO. However, many researchers in their studies reflect the ethnogeographical characteristics of the physical development of the child population. The level of urbanization, reflected in studies of various regions of the Russian Federation, is also an important factor. Given the use of standards for children of the Khanty ethnic group, developed for other cohorts, this may lead to an overdiagnosis of dwarfism and an underdiagnosis of tall stature.
