Aim – to study the age-related prevalence of osteopenic syndrome and osteoporosis using ultrasound bone densitometry in elderly and senile individuals of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Material and methods. The study included 1,700 elderly and senile individuals, of which 820 were male and 880 were female. The patients were divided into two age groups: elderly (60–74 years old) and senile individuals (75–90 years old). For screening examination, a portable ultrasonic bone densitometer SONOST-3000 was used.

Results. The prevalence of osteoporosis, osteopenia and normal bone mineral density in the elderly age group was 31.3%, 43.5% and 25.2%; in the senile group – 45.5%, 36.5% and 18.1%, respectively. The incidence of osteoporosis increased with age (p < 0.003) and was more common in women (p < 0.001).

Conclusion. Osteopenia and osteoporosis, determined by densitometric thresholds, are widespread among the elderly population of Kyrgyzstan, with a higher incidence among women.

Цель – изучить возрастную распространенность остеопенического синдрома и остеопороза с помощью ультразвуковой костной денситометрии у лиц пожилого и старческого возраста Кыргызстана.

Материал и методы исследования. В исследование включено 1700 лиц пожилого и старческого возраста Кыргызстана, из них 820 мужчин и 880 женщин. Пациенты были распределены на две возрастные группы: пожилые люди (60–74 года) – 930 чел. и лица старческого возраста (75–90 лет) – 770 чел. Для скринингового обследования в нашем исследовании использован портативный ультразвуковой костный денситометр SONOST-3000.

Результаты. Распространенность остеопороза, остеопении и нормальной минеральной плотности костной ткани составила в возрастной группе пожилых людей 31,3%, 43,5% и 25,2% соответственно; у лиц старческого возраста – 45,5%, 36,5% и 18,1% соответственно. Частота остеопороза увеличивалась с возрастом (p<0,003) и чаще встречалась у женщин (p<0,001).

Заключение. Остеопенический синдром и остеопороз, определяемые денситометрическими порогами, широко распространен среди пожилого населения Кыргызстана, чаще среди женщин.
